When classical meets jazz - BBC Radio 3 Inside Music

This Saturday on Inside Music, Julian Bliss reveals how he tries to emulate the human voice on his instrument, whether it’s Ailish Tynan weaving lines around the clarinet in Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen, or Nancy Wilson singing The Masquerade is Over.

He also finds power in the sound of the string orchestra, with an arrangement of a Grieg string quartet and a lullaby by Gershwin, and we discover what Julian has learned from Sabine Meyer, one of his biggest influences as a player.

The episode will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Saturday April 30 and available for 30 days on BBC Sounds.
